Puerto Rico ITE (PRITE) Section
About Us:
The ITE Puerto Rico Section is an association of transportation professionals that promotes the development of its members in all areas related to transportation and the enhancement of the Puerto Rico transportation system. The ITE Puerto Rico Section is part of District 10 of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE). ITE is an international educational and scientific association that encourages education, stimulates research, develops public awareness programs and serves as a conduit for the exchange of professional information.

The following are the goals of the ITE Puerto Rico Section:
- Advance the objectives of the ITE.
- Foster a closer association of ITE members.
- Encourage members to prepare or discuss papers.
- Prepare suggestions on matters of policy to the Board of Direction of the ITE.
- Consider local transportation engineering problems.
- Cooperate with other local engineering groups on matters of common interest.
- Present the transportation engineering point of view consistent with established ITE policies.
- Encourage the introduction of transportation engineering courses in colleges, universities, and technical schools in the Section.

Awards
The Puerto Rico Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers awards two people each year base on their contribution to the field of transportation: a professional and a student.
Transportation Professional Award:
This award was established by the ITE Puerto Rico Section in the year 2012 with the intention of recognizing the significant achievements, contributions, and performance from individuals, agencies, and/or private organizations in the field of transportation during a particular year.
The award nominees must have exemplary achievements and significant contributions in transportation and related fields, which include, but are not limited to:
- implementation of new technologies,
- advancement in transportation services,
- exemplary role in a high-relevance project,
- participation and significant service to ITE and the Section,
- advancement in transportation education, research activities, and professional development activities, and
- leadership positions in public agencies or private companies.
Student Award:
This award was established by the ITE Puerto Rico Section in the year 2012 with the intention of recognizing the significant contributions made by college students in education and/or research activities for the development of the transportation and related fields and recognizing those students that aspire to follow a professional career in transportation during a particular year.
The nominees must have been a good-standing student pursuing a bachelor, master, or PhD degree in a transportation-related field and must have been enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited university institution during the previous academic year. The nominations should consider the efforts and achievements made during his/her college studies, fellowships and awards, participation in research projects related to transportation topics, and the development of presentations and publications in technical conferences and/or journals.
